Animal Paint-Fest with artist Ron Archuleta Rodriguez, Check out the Wooden Menagerie on Parade in the museum’s auditorium, then participate in a group project painting large carved-wood animals made by Ron, or create your own peg animal. All supplies provided. Painting will take place in the Outdoor Classroom.

Celebrate Animals on Parade by making your own Folk Art animal. Be inspired by the New Mexico Hispano tradition of wooden carved animals on display in our pop-up exhibit in our Auditorium “Wooden Menagerie on Parade”, or draw inspiration from your own days in the Santa Fe pet parade.

In partnership between The Museum of International Folk Art, CENTER Santa Fe, and Santa Fe Workshops, please join us for an exclusive masterclass with Marta Syrko, an acclaimed contemporary photographer living and working in Lviv, Ukraine. Syrko was recently commissioned for a twelve-work series Wrapping Art—Art of Salvation (2024), which is featured in MOIFA’s exhibition, Amidst Cries from the Rubble: Art of Loss and Resilience from Ukraine.
Syrko will offer insights into the complexities of addressing social justice issues through photography on a global stage, with a particular focus on the ongoing war in Ukraine. She will discuss how her current environment informs her artistic practice and share her personal journey within the field of photography, including how she balances her artistic and commercial endeavors. The session will include time for dialogue with the artist, moderated by co-curators Laura J. Mueller, PhD, and Nina Medvinskaya. Participants will also have the unique opportunity to view the complete, large-scale photographs from her commission featured in the current exhibition.

Join contemporary Lviv-based photographer Marta Syrko (b. 1995) as she discusses her recently-commissioned series Wrapping Art—Art of Salvation, which debuted in MOIFA’s current exhibition Amidst Cries from the Rubble: Art of Loss and Resilience from Ukraine presented in the Mark Naylor and Dale Gunn Gallery of Conscience. Building on her earlier war-related Sculpture Series, Syrko will explore the ways in which the war has affected her artistic process and will provide a unique perspective on the physical and emotional transformations brought about by the conflict. The session will include a Q&A, allowing the audience to engage directly with Marta and explore her artistic journey alongside the profound themes of her work. ASL interpretation will be provided.

Join us in the Vernick Auditorium for a special production by Teatro Paraguas of ¡Viva México! The Music, Dance and Poetry of Mexico. Beginning in an age before Spanish was even spoken in the Americas, continuing up to present times, ¡Viva México! celebrates the incredibly rich heritage of Mexican music, dance and poetry through a fully staged, choreographed production that coincides with the Mexican Día de La Independencia or Independence Day (September 16).

Singers, musicians and dancers from Teatro Paraguas as well as Ballet Folclórico Xóchitl, Los Niños de Santa Fe, and Music Director Thelma Arguello, come together in a lively performance of songs and dances from Pre-Columbian Aztec times, through the ages of Spanish colonization, Mexican Independence, and up to the modern era. Interspersed between music and dance numbers, actors from Teatro Paraguas celebrate the Mexican poetic tradition through showcasing the poetry of contemporary, living Mexican poets.
Music and dance in the show include the Aztec Tonantzin, 19th century varsovianas, waltzes, serenades, the lively La Cucaracha, ending with the popular Huapango de Moncayo.

Join us for a celebration of Mexican cultural heritage with a vibrant fusion of music, dance, theater, educational activities, and a live luchador wrestling match on Milner Plaza! This event will highlight some of the rich regional cultural traditions reflected in our current exhibition La Cartonería Mexicana / The Mexican Art of Paper and Paste, and honor the history and living traditions of Indigenous communities of Mexico and our region. This event is being produced in collaboration by the Museum of International Folk Art and Museum of Indian Art and Culture and supported by the Friends of Folk Art (FOFA).

Join Ukrainian singer and virtuoso of the bandura, Maryna Krut, for a special evening performance located offsite at Paradiso at 903 Early Street, presented by AMP Concerts. Krut’s compelling, soulful performances evoke both folk traditions and modern sensibilities, with pop and jazz flourishes. The bandura, a stringed instrument unique to Ukraine, has an astonishing 64 strings stretched over a single piece of wood. Krut plays the bass set with her left hand, while the right moves across the prodigious treble array. In addition to being a masterful instrumentalist, Krut’s striking, powerful voice soars in an acoustic setting, whether with a string quartet or solo.
A Eurovision finalist, Krut often represents Ukraine at official events and performs for soldiers in the current war zone. She has appeared at the Edinburgh International Culture Summit, Andalucia Big Festival, Montreal Ukrainian Festival, and on other international stages.
Krut’s visit and performance at Paradiso are presented in collaboration with MOIFA’s Amidst Cries from the Rubble: Art of Loss and Resilience from Ukraine.
